LSE World Langugage Department Statement Regarding Academic Integrity
The teachers of world languages at Southeast High School are committed to providing students opportunities to acquire the skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing in the target language(s) as well as learning about the cultures of the people(s) who speak those languages. They also believe that students must accomplish thee goals through study, practice and individual effort. Therefore, academic integrity is expected from all students.
In classes,
- Students will not copy another student?s work or allow others to copy.
- Students will not get answers on quizzes or tests from others. This includes giving or receiving information or allowing another student to see or hear answers to quizzes or tests.
- Students will not take credit or receive a grade for a project or other assingment if he/she did not do sufficient work.
For outside resources,
- Students will give credit (footnotes, notation or bibliography) of resources used in the preparation of any paper, project or assignment. Copying others? words without giving credit is plagiarism
? Students will not use electronic devices or computers to translate work into the target language for a world language class.
? Students must use appropriate, valid and accurate Web sites for any class assignment or work.
? Any information gained from others (e.g., other teachers, professionals, native speakers, more advanced students) must be processed by the student and done in his/her own words and linguistic skill level.
Unethical creativity is unacceptable, e.g.,
? writing quiz/test answers on skin, clothing or footwear
? hiding quiz/test answers in places accessible or visible during quiz/test
? taking or procuring a quiz/test before taking it
Honest, moral, ethical behavior is encouraged and appreciated, e.g.,
? studying on a daily basis decreases the need for desperate or lazy behaviors
? seeking extra help from teachers early
? taking advantage of extra resources offered by teachers, e.g., resource room, helpful internet links, extra practice exercises
Consequences for being less than honest may include
? a grade of ?0? on the assignment/test/quiz/project
? record of the situation sent to parents/guardian, counselor, Dept. Chair, school administrator
? possible consequences to membership in National Honor Society or eleigibility for other honors
